Brand Feature: KOSA Arts
We’re thrilled to announce that KOSA will be part of our upcoming Half-Day Retreat: Exploring Regenerative Food & Fiber Systems at the Fibershed Learning Center on April 18, 2025.
Founded by Elaine Hamblin, KOSA - Oakland Design Studio is a slow fashion practice of eco-friendly materials and elevated craftsmanship. Their work is designed and crafted in the studio using natural fibers, as well as pieces using plant-based dyes or eco printing.
At the Fibershed Fashion Show, KOSA will present a curated mini collection crafted with Fibershed’s regenerative fabrics, showcasing the power of slow fashion in action.
Q&A with Elaine Hamblin, Founder of KOSA Arts
What does regenerative fashion mean to your brand?
"Design with intent of longevity of natural resources. Source materials where farming and production practices replenish soil, water, and air. Design for versatility. Create with integrity, respect, and fair compensation for the hands and land that support us."
How do you shift public perception about fashion’s impact?
"I hope to inspire others to consider not just what they wear, but how production and disposal impact the environment. By offering alternatives to fast fashion, they can make healthier, more sustainable choices."
How can people build a better relationship with their clothes?
"Dress as creative practice—explore personal style beyond trends. Spend time in nature, mend your clothes, and cherish them as resources. Choose materials that can safely return to the soil."
What are you most looking forward to at the event?
"Connecting with others working in land care and restoration, restoring native plants for natural dyeing, and sharing insights on soil-to-soul fashion."
